The feed rate of a vertical machining center refers to the speed at which the tool moves across the surface of the workpiece during machining, which is essentially the speed at which the workpiece moves. The feed rate of a vertical machining center specifically refers to the movement speed of the workpiece on the machining table during processing.
The feed of a vertical machining center refers to the speed at which the tool moves over the surface of the workpiece during processing, which is also the speed at which the workpiece moves during processing. The feed of a vertical machining center refers to the movement speed of the workpiece on the machining table during processing.
Unit: The unit of feed for a vertical machining center is per revolution, not per minute. One revolution refers to the time required for the workpiece to make one complete turn during processing, measured in seconds. Based on the time per revolution and the distance the workpiece moves on the machining table during processing, the value of the feed for the vertical machining center can be calculated.
Relationship with production efficiency: On one hand, the faster the feed, the higher the processing efficiency, and thus the higher the production efficiency. On the other hand, if the feed is too fast, it can lead to a rough and uneven processing surface, and may even damage the workpiece and tool, thereby affecting production efficiency. Therefore, when using a vertical machining center for processing, it is necessary to determine an appropriate feed speed based on specific conditions to ensure a balance between processing efficiency and production efficiency.
The alignment of a vertical machining center is an important step to ensure processing accuracy and workpiece quality. Alignment mainly includes steps such as horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, adjusting the tool centerline, and program origin alignment.
Horizontal alignment: Adjust the levelness of the worktable to meet the requirements.
Vertical alignment: Adjust the verticality of the spindle to meet the requirements.
Adjusting the tool centerline: Adjust the position and direction of the tool to make it parallel to the worktable and spindle centerline. The specific method includes selecting a long tool to install on the spindle, placing the tool on the worktable, adjusting its position and direction to make it parallel to the worktable and spindle centerline, and then using a tool measuring instrument to measure the distance and angle between the tool and the worktable, making fine adjustments based on the measurement results.
Program origin alignment:
Z-coordinate alignment: A tool setting block is commonly used to measure the Z-coordinate value of the tool. First, set the CNC control system to manual mode and switch the screen to display mechanical coordinates; then place a tool setting block on the workpiece, use the block to test fit with the tool's end face or tip, and adjust the spindle in the Z direction repeatedly until the tool setting block contacts the tool's end face or tip, which indicates the program origin in the Z direction.
XY plane alignment: A dial indicator and edge finder can be used for alignment. When the geometric shape of the workpiece is rectangular or a rotating body, a centrifugal edge finder is generally used for program origin alignment.
In addition, there are three basic methods for aligning and installing workpieces on a vertical machining center:
Direct alignment installation using the worktable: This method is commonly used in single-piece or small batch production, and when it is inconvenient to use fixtures. The workpiece is gently clamped on the machine's worktable, using one face of the workpiece as a reference surface, moving the worktable, and using tools like a dial indicator for alignment to determine the correct position of the workpiece on the machine, and then clamping the workpiece tightly.
Alignment installation using machine vice: This is mainly used in single-piece or small batch production and is suitable for workpieces with small clamping dimensions. The position of the fixed jaws can be aligned using a dial indicator, and suitable shims are selected during workpiece installation to ensure that the processing surface is slightly higher than the jaws.
Alignment installation using special fixtures: This is mainly used in large batch production. During alignment, a dial indicator can be fixed on the machine spindle or bed, and the probe of the indicator is brought into contact with the reference surface, then the worktable is moved to adjust the fixture position so that the reference surface of the fixture is parallel to the movement direction of the worktable. When installing the workpiece, clean the positioning surface of the workpiece and the positioning elements of the fixture, place the workpiece on the positioning elements and press it against them, and finally clamp the workpiece.
After alignment is completed, testing and verification are required to ensure the effectiveness of the alignment. Based on the measurement results, the alignment results should be verified and corrected.
The feed and alignment of a vertical machining center are key steps to ensure processing accuracy and production efficiency. In actual operation, it is necessary to choose an appropriate feed speed and alignment method based on specific conditions to ensure a balance between processing quality and production efficiency.
